About company founder Andrew Von Teichman
At the age of 16, Andrew started his career at family owned Pelee Island Winery, in Leamington, Ontario. Over the course of several summers while in his teens, Andrew worked as a cellar hand, cleaning barrels and scrubbing floors and spent time in the vineyards, pruning, and learning about grape growing. While studying at Huron College, at the University of Western Ontario, Andrew continued to work at the winery in marketing, designing the first e-commerce wine web site in Canada, followed by a full time role in on premise sales after graduating. In 2001, Andrew earned his sommelier certification from the International Sommelier Guild and spent the next four months on exchange in New Zealand, working at Cooper’s Creek winery. To further his passion for the winemaking side of the business, Andrew enrolled in and successfully completed the introduction to winemaking course offered by UC Davis in California.
In 2005, the von Teichman family sold its interest in Pelee Island and Andrew soon joined Vincor Canada, A Constellation Company, as key account manager on-premise and later headed Constellation's LCBO business. After 3+ years at Constellation, Andrew resigned to start Von Terra, two weeks prior to the arrival of the first of his four sons.
